Since Landen was old enough to play sports, we tried out gymnastics, soccer, basketball, baseball and football, but he didn't have the desire or passion for any of these activities. In April 2011 we saw an ad in the Bismarck Tribune for a 5 week program at Reis MMA. We had wanted to try out martial arts for several years, but were not sure where to go. The ad was clear, this was an opportunity to test it out before making a dedicated commitment, so we signed him up. 1 session and Landen was hooked, he loved it and wanted to go as often as possible. After the 5 weeks, we committed to a year and Landen has moved 4 belts from white to purple. The real reward has been seeing our son grow with more confidence, respect for himself and others and the desire to be better at everything he does. We don't have to repeat ourselves or ask more then once to have something done. Opening the doors, helping carry in groceries and making life easier for mom and dad has become a new found attitude : )
Reis MMA is a family environment that is comfortable and welcoming, it is not a mass production of martial artists. This is a place for adults and children to learn an art that is practical. We have seen other programs and there is no comparison, Reis MMA is not just about learning a movement, it is a hands on experience that teaches the student how to apply what they learn to real life situations.
The students are expected to be the best they can be, follow the rules, do what is right and not to use what they learn to be harmful to others. We are so grateful for this program,
Thank you, Miss Roxanne and Master Reis Dawn and Darryle Stein
My name is Keith Owen (www.bjjmoves.com) and I am a black belt in three different martial arts styles and was asked to sit on a Black Belt testing board that Mr. Reis and his wonderful wife invited me too. I had not met Mr. Reis previously to this time. Mr. Reis paid for all my expenses at a very nice hotel and also hosted myself, another instructor and HIS personal instructor for the black belt testing. We had a number of students testing. Overall I was very pleased with his students level of quality and was not against anyone achieving their black belt rating on this day. Mr. Reis went all out on this event and his students had a great time and all were very pleased with their promotion. His school was very clean and presented nicely. I am unsure as to why there are so many negative comments but they do not add up to the experience I had. It appears that someone didn't want to pay their bill. Mr. Reis is a legitimate and serious instructor and I was proud to meet him and spend time with him and his family. Take a class and see for yourself. It's a wonderful school! Keith Owen

grand opening of the Reis mixed Martial Arts school in Mandan. I was able to watch some demonstrations of classes that were taught there. On 05 May 2010 I took an introductory class and thus began my study of the Martial Arts at the age of 52. One of the first things I noticed was a welcome and family friendly environment where brothers and sisters, mothers and daughters, I was invited to my son Jason's belt graduation in May 2010. He is Master Reis's longest running student. This was also the fathers and sons all trained some in the same classes some in the other programs offered at the school. Also that Respect, discipline, and positive affirmations are part of each class. I started in Aikido and hold the rank of Green belt. I moved to Reis - Ryu Aiki - Kempo where I'm a Purple belt working towards a Blue belt. In January 2011 I was excepted into the Student Leader Program the first step in becoming a Sempai (Assistant Instructor ) and was promoted to Senior Student Leader in May 2011. Upon entering the Dojo ( school ) you will most likely meet Miss Roxanne Reis Master Reis's wife and co owner of the school she is very friendly and always has a beaming smile on her face. She takes care of the business side and a lot of the behind the scene things. You will also see a very clean and well maintained training facility with plenty of equipment for training. Master Reis is an excellent teacher his training in the military, law enforcement, real life experience is evident in the way he teaches and as he has said many times " if it doesn't work I don't teach it." If you are interested in the Martial Arts come in and check us out see what we have to offer compare us to other schools and make your choice from there. Steve Rogalla
I came to Master Tomas Reis when I was 25. I failed at any sport I ever tried in high school. Master Reis and his wife have taught me a lot about perseverance and self discipline among many other values. That if I have a goal in life I should not quit until I have reached my goal. I wanted to do a cage fight. I have never been in a fight my entire life. I was the most uncoordinated student he had ever seen. I kept trying day after day. It wasn't easy but it was easy to keep going back the school with their great family friendly atmosphere and plus everyone was having fun! After a year of training I finally did an amateur cage fight and won. The school doesn't focus on competition tho, its focus is on self-defense and becoming a better person than we already are. I've gained a lot of self confidence and respect for myself and others. I've also learned leadership skills that have given me the opportunity to be promoted in my job. So everything I've learned at the school I've been able to apply to my life outside of the school. Tyler "Makoto" Muscha
I have two children that are practicing at Reis Extreme. My 4 year old has been in the Little Dragons class for 8 months. The work that Master Reis and other staff have done with him has been wonderful. In addition to them teaching martial arts they are working on identifying letters, safety skills, respect, manners and self-discipline. My 11 year old lacked self-confidence. He plays other sports but the lack of self confidence was holding him back. In the 3 months that he has been involved with Reis Extreme he has excelled in all areas giving him the self-confidence that he needs. They are doing an amazing job at Reis Extreme. Tina Bay
I have two young children practicing Karate at Reis Extreme Mixed Martial Arts. Both of my children have participated in youth recreation programs including soccer, t-ball and gymnastics. While they enjoyed all of those experiences, none of them provided the structure and discipline that Reis MMA does. As a parent, it is encouraging to see an instructor who cares enough about the students to require their respect and attention during class. Master Reis, Miss Roxanne and staff are reinforcing the concepts of consequences, listening, patience, respect and good behavior. Based on my experiences, I wouldn't hesitate recommending this organization to others. Dot Frank
You will not find any better people that will go out of there way to help succeed in your goals on or off the mat. They are always willing to go the extra mile for you in your training and in other goals in life. It is a must to go in and witness a kids program or any other program and see him work with his students. Its obvious the people who gave a bad review are who that do not know how to communicate in life and its funny how they get through life with out those basic skills. As a parent i have seen my kids have a better work ethic and listen to there coaches which made them some of the best kids on there football and basketball teams because of how Master Reis teaches. Our son completed the Little Dragons program and is now in the Little Ninjas program. Master Reis and Miss Roxanne and staff do an amazing job with these students. They not only learn martial arts techniques, but Master Reis teaches them about strangers and how to protect themselves, about fire safety, when to call 911 and many other basic safety things our kids need to know. He also teaches them to respect others and themselves. It's just an awesome program that is so age appropriate. I love that Reis MMA is involved in our community by speaking at schools about these programs as well. Our son has improved his focus, listening and manners since his involvement in these two programs. Just watching these kids and how much they enjoy it even makes me want to join an adult program. This is an outstanding dojo! Not only is the dojo outstanding, but the owners, teachers and students rock the house! I was a student under Master Reis for almost 3 years and prior to coming in as a student I had two black belts with 12 years experience in two other systems with remarkable teachers as well but the teachers at Reis Extreme MMA helped me push new limits! I was very fortunate to have an opportunity to experience a challenging black belt test under Master Reis and will never forget the support and accomplishment of passing and reaching my goals. Due to furthering other opportunities and commitments, I had to make a difficult decision to step away from the martial arts for awhile; however I had a great discussion with everyone, all is well and I know that I can come back when the time is right. If you want to get pushed to you limit and break down your walls, this place will help you do that! They should get 10 stars, not five!
